Eleven Mining Lawyers Join Bennett Jones

Bennett Jones LLP announced today that a team of 11 corporate mining and securities lawyers is joining the firm in its Toronto office. The group includes Senior Counsel John Sabine; partners Michael Melanson, Sander Grieve, Linda Misetich Dann, Abbas Ali Khan, James Clare and Ali Naushahi; and associates Elianeth Alicea, Jamie Au, Tiffany Canzano and Justin Park. This move will enhance an already formidable M&A and capital markets practice at Bennett Jones, and provide clients with exceptional substance and depth of experience in the mining industry. With this added bench strength in mining and the firm’s leading position in oil & gas and in energy infrastructure, the firm is more than ever Canada’s leading natural resources law firm.

Bennett Jones Chairman and CEO, Hugh MacKinnon said, “This is a remarkable team of lawyers, and we are delighted to have them join Bennett Jones. With our 90-year history in the energy and natural resources sectors, the addition of this team builds on our commitment to provide our clients with world class expertise and service.”

This group, coming from a major Canadian law firm, will join an impressive mining transactions team that includes Georges Dubé, Norman Findlay, Christian Gauthier, Eden Oliver and Adam Taylor. This will make Bennett Jones one of the top mining firms in the nation.

“Canada is a world leader not only in mineral exploration and production, but also in capital formation and mergers & acquisitions in the mining sector”, says Stephen Bowman, Bennett Jones’ Toronto Managing Partner. “This talented group of lawyers broadens and deepens our ability to serve our clients in this key industrial and financial sector.”

Over 1,400 junior, mid-market and senior mining companies with Canadian and global mineral projects are listed on the Toronto Stock Exchange. Of the approximately 9,700 mineral exploration projects held by TSX-listed companies, 50 percent are outside Canada.
